    Introduction

    PA085376.jpg

For starters, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude towards SGReefers for conferring the title of Dream Tank of the Quarter(DToTQ) on my reef aquarium.

My love for marine fish began when I saw them about 6 years ago. At that point of time, I had just gotten a new place and I felt that a marine aquarium would do wonders for my living room. From that point onwards, I’ve never looked back.

    Tank Profile

8ft by 3ft by 2.34ft with internal overflow

    3-sides crystal glass

    Sump: 6ft x 2.02ft x 1.5ft

    Total water volume: 2378litres

    How old is your tank?
I started curing my live rocks since November 2014. Thus, my tank should 11 months old as of now.

What kind of additives do you use?
I am currently running the ZEOvit® System as well as a Calcium Reactor to maintain my KH, Ca & Mg values.

    IMG_3746.jpg
Huge Calcium Reactor as seen here

What advice would you share with new reefers?
I believe in reading and asking questions. However, that does not mean that you should follow in other people’s footsteps blindly.

Different reefers will always provide you with different opinions for a similar question, thus it is always good to digest and formulate your own deductions.

Patience is however the most important virtue in this hobby.

    What equipments do you use?
    Skimmer: deltec sc3070s

Calcium Reactor: geo CR1218 wz 20kg ARM calcium media mix with 4kg grotech magnesium media

    Filtration: 72kg marine pure block

Zeovit filter (L) automatic (as i can’t possibly shake it everyday)

Return pump: 2x reef octopus 16500 providing an estimated 30000l/hr return

    Wavemaker: 2x rw20, 2x rw15, 1x gyrexf150

    Chiller: 9000btu compressor

    Lightings: 2x ati powermodule 3ft 4tube

    2x ati powermodule 4ft 4tube

    1x 2ft aquazonic 4tube

    5x AI Hydra52

    Live rocks: est. 100kg

    Livesand caribsea special grade 8packets

    ATO tunze osmolator 3155

    Very cool automatic ZEOvit® reactor.

    What’s your weekly maintenance regime?
Zeobak: 16 drops twice a week

    Zeostart: 0.8ml twice a day

Coral Booster: 16ml every 3 days

    B Balance: 16ml every 3 days

Pohl Xtra Special: 16ml every 4 days

    Sponge Power: 0.8ml alternate days

Coral Vitaliser : 0.8ml twice a day (I'm a advocator of spamming CV)

I also perform a 20% water change every fortnight.

    What made you start reefing?

As I have mentioned in the beginning, I decided to build a marine aquarium in my living room.

However, being a greenhorn in this hobby, I made a lot of mistakes, deadly mistakes I would say. Starting with my tank, I custom built a 7ft by 1ft by 2.34ft aquarium and what my contractor did was beyond terrible. He built the tank and basically left it in the living room. I had to get my hands dirty and get the overflow compartment as well as the sump running. Again, due to my lack of experience, my sump was designed in such a bad way that it only had space for a skimmer.

Not to mention every reefer’s Achilles Heel, impatience. I was battling my internal self everyday to try and persuade myself to avoid buying every single fish or coral that I saw out in the farms.

After 5 years, I shifted to a new apartment. However, this time round, I was well prepared with the painful experiences that I’ve learnt over the past years. Thus, I decided to build a better and more robust marine aquarium with a well-defined support system.

    I decided to go bigger...

    PA085496.jpg

What is the most important equipment in your tank right now?

My most important equipment would be my Apex, as my aquarium and life support system is highly dependent on electricity. With apex, I would be instantly notified in the scenario of any power outrages.

IMG_3744.jpg The brains of the system.

What do you like most about SGReefers.com?

Sgreefers is a new platform that allows fellow reefers to learn and share good reefing habits with no troubles at all.

    (Personal questions)

What’s your favourite fish in the tank?

I love all my fish and corals.

What’s your favourite coral in the tank?

Like I’ve mentioned, I love all my fishes and corals.

Who are your reefing kakis and how have they helped you in your marine hobby journey?

I am proud to be nominated for DTOTQ and delighted to have been featured for the first edition.

However, this tank is not just my tank but ‘OUR’ tank. ‘Our’ refers to my reefing kakis, namely, Shaohao. Rodney, Jowen, Charles, Luke, Sherman, Mr & Mrs Alston, they have selflessly helped me in the areas of aquascaping, quarantine, equipment advice, repair & many more that I am unable to list down.

This marine aquarium would not have been possible without you guys and girl.

A special mention and appreciation to my Shifu ‘KZ’ who has helped me relentlessly with the set up and even “chiong" with me to LFS to find rocks.

In addition to receiving a cash prize of S$200 from SGReefers.com. We have also provided 小sohal with a complimentary testing of his aquarium's par values. It is interesting to note that, the par values have significant differences when directly under T5 lighting or LED lighting even while being mere inches apart.

**image has been treated so that users are able to see the par readings clearly
