Woke up and saw my caperplus alarm on high temperature (>26.5'C). I typically control my water temp between 25-26'C.

Did my own troubleshooting and suspect the temperature probe sensor might be faulty. Remove the probe n found no damage wire, just covered with coralline algaes. So I took it out and did a vinegar soak. Doesn't help......

I always keep a spare set of thermostat n probe, decided to replace the probe myself.

After replacement, here is what I get....[IMG]

Initially I thought it could be in Fahrenheit. But 99.6F = 37.6C. Can't be....

Decided to message our trustworthy Compressor installer Derek for help.

Derek is a very nice chap and being a fellow hobbyist he understand the criticality of water temp on our precious corals. Immediate he say 'Tomorrow morning 9am I can drop by'.....

Meantime, I make sure all the lights are switch off to buy time and watch the temp raise through the night.....

    0845hrs - 27.5degC

Not too bad....but the soft corals are the first to show signs of discomfort...

Finally Derek came to the rescue at 0900hrs....RVS is saved...

During this event I also found out my back up hailea chiller is not working, suppose to cut in at 27degC.....no power supply to it....most likely a fuse blow according to Derek. Will troubleshoot later.

Derek replaced the temp probe & teach me how to play with the setting on the thermostat for different sensor. Even write it down in case I forgot....he also shared with me on how to tell if a tank is properly silicone n build. Learn alot from this event....

3 cheers for Derek, our trusty compressor drop in coil installer....anyone wants to install a compressor chiller, I highly recommend Derek. [IMG][IMG]

With a bigger CR I am now able to control my pH setpoint higher to match my kH consumption rate. My average pH raises from 7.7 to 8.0.

Should expect faster growth on the corals soon.[IMG]

The daily lowest pH is slowly improving. Use to be lowest at 7.7, sometimes even 7.65 which is too low for hard corals esp sps.

So morale of the story if you want to go for CR route, choose a CR with bigger media capacity. I recommend 1L media per 50L water volume ratio.

Then set your pH controller at 7.0 with slow dripping effluent rate (not too slow until it airlock).

Monitor your kH daily for next 3 days, if insufficient, just reduce your pH controller setpoint by 0.1 (6.90) until it matches your kH consumption rate.

Watch the below YouTube link for example of slow drip rate.

Fishes make the reef feels alive and also less aggression among the fishes. However do ensure biofilteration is matured enough to handle the bioload first before adding more fishes. If you are still experiencing algaes bloom, cyanobacteria or diatoms on sand bed, It means your biofiltration is still not strong enough, add more biomedia like Sera siporax and give time for maturity. Typically it can take up to 6-12 months.

Par38 can't cover the 2ft refugium. upgraded to this China led grow light 1ft x 1ft for full coverage.

    Time to grow some chaeto....[IMG][IMG]

Very hard to fail one unless your nutrients super low.....you need lights that have spectrum suited for algaes then follow by par.

If not algaes will choose to grow in main tank than refugium

    Murphy visited again...

Somehow I knew this is going to leak one day....don't understand why Reef Octopus will want to regulate the amount of co2 recirculation by using a cheap plastic valve.

Since its leaking, I decided to go without a valve. Full recirculation of any excess Co2 back to the suction of the pump.

I realised there are two categories of people in this hobby....which category do you belong to?

Marine keepers - One who keep a saltwater aquarium for bragging rights and display purposes.

Reefers - One who keep a saltwater aquarium to grow and culture corals.[IMG]

Got my hands on a Kessil A360we n A160we Tuna blue to replace my custom led strip for supplement on my ATI sunpower.

Personally I find the kessil blue spectrum is very similar to ATI blue plus except you get the perfect shimmering like sunlight.

Have tune down my ATI sunpower intensity from 90% to 70% and set the kessil intensity to max 100%. Will update the par readings on a later date.

The fishes knew my weakness, I can't resist feeding them whenever I walk pass the front glass of the tank.
